The Mapuche terrorists from the Lafken Winkul Mapu community, who maintained the illegal occupation of land in Villa Mascardi until October 2022, were recently added by the Government of Javier Milei to the Public Registry of Persons and Entities Linked to Acts of Terrorism.
The members of the Mapuche group were added to the registry last September, where other groups from the region were already listed, including the Resistencia Ancestral Mapuche (RAM), led by the detained terrorist Facundo Jones Huala, who also appears on the official list.
The recently incorporated Mapuches belong to the group that, between 2017 and 2022, usurped public and private land in Villa Mascardi, about 35 kilometers (22 miles) from Bariloche. Some of its members remain fugitives, while others were convicted by the Federal Justice for the occupation of public land and private properties.

Among the members of Lafken Winkul Mapu identified in the registry as linked to acts of terrorism is Matías Santana, popularly known as the "binoculars Mapuche." This nickname, which even appears in the official registry, refers to the false testimony he gave during the search for the terrorist Santiago Maldonado, when he claimed to have seen with binoculars how the Gendarmerie was transporting him, something that was later disproved by the Justice.
