The Government of Javier Milei published a message on Wednesday about the tightening of immigration controls, which seeks to reinforce compliance with the law and prevent the entry or stay in the country of illegal immigrants or those who have criminal records.

It was communicated by the Minister of National Security, Alejandra Monteoliva, who presented the initiative as part of a policy to regain control of the borders and strengthen national security.

Through a video released on her official X account, the official delivered a direct message about Javier Milei's administration's approach: “I am Alejandra Monteoliva, Minister of National Security. This is a clear message: immigration regulations in Argentina have been tightened. Anyone who tries to enter illegally or has a criminal record will not be allowed to do so”, she stated.

The minister also specified that the decision includes measures for immigrants who commit crimes within the national territory: “Any foreigner who commits a crime within the territory will be identified, expelled, and will not be allowed to enter again”, she maintained.

In the same vein, Monteoliva emphasized that those who are already in an irregular situation must comply with the legislation or leave the country: “Those who are already here illegally must regularize their situation or leave the country. Entering or remaining illegally will not be tolerated”, she pointed out. She also indicated that any foreign person without a criminal record but without the corresponding legal authorization will be expelled with a reentry ban.

The tightening of controls includes coordinated work between the federal forces and the National Directorate of Migration. Recently, immigration operations began to be carried out in different areas of the country, using identification and background-check tools. The objective is to strengthen control mechanisms and ensure that foreigners comply with the law effectively throughout the territory.

Monteoliva highlighted that currently “the federal security forces guard the territory and work in coordination to protect Argentines”, underscoring the coordination among the different areas of the State.

In a message aligned with the general policy of the Executive, the minister stated: “Under President Milei's leadership, the State has regained control of its borders and the law is enforced without exceptions. For years, the lack of controls allowed organized crime, drug trafficking, and human trafficking to operate at our borders. That stage is over”.

Finally, after detailing the strengthening of the immigration framework, she concluded: “The Argentina that is coming will be a great country full of opportunities for those who respect the rules, but anyone who chooses to violate them will face consequences, because in this Argentina, those who do wrong pay for it”.
