MindsEye's launch was surrounded by high expectations, driven by a strong marketing campaign that highlighted Alex Hernandez as the main face of the game. However, reality was very different: bugs, technical errors, and shallow gameplay ended up disappointing both specialized critics and early players.
The failures not only affected Build A Rocket Boy studio's reputation but also Hernandez's own, who became the target of criticism on social media and specialized forums. According to his account, he feared that his career would be marked by being associated with one of the year's most failed launches.
From criticism to personal attacks
In later interviews, Hernandez explained that the gamer community's reaction went beyond the usual dissatisfaction. Offensive messages and personal attacks toward him and other team members were frequent, to the point of affecting his professional confidence.

The actor acknowledged that players have the right to express their frustration, but he questioned the extreme hostility and the fact that the discontent was directed at him personally. "The internet is a place where people say things they'd never say in person", he reflected, recalling how even his face came to symbolize the failure of the title.
A history of complicated launches
This was not the first time Hernandez faced a similar scenario. His role as Lincoln Clay in Mafia 3 was also linked to a launch that received criticism for technical problems. The repetition of this experience fueled his fear of being considered a "cursed games actor."
