In the second hearing of the trial for the femicide of Catalina Gutiérrez (21), an unexpected moment caused a stir in the courtroom. Minutes before the session resumed, while the entry of the Popular Jury and the Court was being completed, Néstor Soto (22), the murderer of the young Architecture student, displayed an attitude that surprised everyone present.
Soto, who was joined by his lawyer, Ángela Burgos Niño, began a conversation with her that, after a serious start, ended with inappropriate laughter. This gesture occurred just as the victim's family, including Catalina's father, mother, and sister, were already seated near him, observing every detail of what was happening. Also present were the deceased victim's boyfriend and other loved ones.
The contrast between the accused's attitude and that of Catalina's family was noticeable. While Soto gestured and laughed with his lawyer, the victim's family seemed to be absorbing the pain of the trial, with serious looks that held deep sadness and tense postures. Catalina's dad, mom, and sister awaited the resumption of the process with evident anguish.
