The mystery of Countess Luana, Queen Máxima's niece who steps out of anonymity
The eldest daughter of Prince Friso and Mabel, close to Máxima's daughters, began to appear in public
When talking about the Dutch royal family, the most well-known names are those of King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima Zorreguieta and their daughters, Princesses Amalia, Alexia, and Ariane. However, Princes Friso and Mabel, parents of Countess Luana, have also been prominent figures. On March 26, the young woman turned 20 and, more than a decade after the tragedy that marked her life, she began to appear more at public events.
A little-known figure in the Dutch royalty
Born on March 26, 2005, in London, Luana of Orange-Nassau is the eldest daughter of Princes Friso and Mabel. Additionally, she is the granddaughter of Princess Beatrix, former Queen of the Netherlands, and Prince Consort Claus of Amsberg. Her father renounced his dynastic rights for love, which led the family to live outside the royal sphere, residing in the United Kingdom with her younger sister, Countess Zaria.

Away from scandals and the media, Luana's life was discreet until, in 2012, a tragic event brought her into the public eye. That year, her father suffered a severe skiing accident in Lech, Austria, which left him in a coma for eight months. Finally, Prince Friso passed away on August 12, 2013, at the age of 44, at Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague.
A life away from royal protocol
Despite her lineage, Luana is not in the line of succession to the Dutch throne nor does she have obligations within the Royal House. Her mother, Mabel, inherited the title of princess, but she also doesn't perform official functions for the monarchy.

Despite her discretion, Luana maintains a close relationship with her cousins, especially with Princess Alexia, with whom she shares age and interests. She has been seen at some family events, such as the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort, where she appeared alongside her uncles, Willem-Alexander and Máxima, and her cousins Amalia and Alexia.
Passionate about art and sports, Luana has continued to cultivate her interests away from media prominence. However, with the arrival of her twentieth birthday, her name began to resonate more in the media. Máxima Zorreguieta's niece continues to maintain a low profile, away from royal responsibilities, but she is increasingly seen more integrated into the Orange-Nassau dynasty.
