The trial investigating the circumstances of Diego Armando Maradona's death has added a new hearing. Two months into the process, the court summoned Matías Morla, lawyer and representative of the former footballer, and Jonathan Espósito, nephew of the 1986 world champion and one of the people who spent the most time with him during his last years, to testify.
Both are providing testimony in the judicial process that seeks to determine the responsibility of the seven health professionals charged with the alleged crime of homicide. Among the accused are neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, psychologist Carlos Díaz, nurses Ricardo Almirón and Gisela Madrid, coordinator Mariano Perroni, and the doctor from the prepaid medical company Nancy Forlini.
The first to testify was Jonathan Espósito, who stated that he has no ties to any of the parties involved in the trial. During his statement, he identified Luque and Cosachov as the doctors in charge of Maradona's care during the period leading up to his death.
Additionally, he recalled that he accompanied the former footballer to his home in Tigre after the surgery for the subdural hematoma and explained that the transfer was decided by the medical team.
