Pablo Carro will lead the list of the residual Kirchnerism in Córdoba

Córdoba's Kirchnerism is betting on Carro in an election where his chances of securing a seat are at risk

Residual Kirchnerism in Córdoba is trying to cling to Congress with Pablo Carro's candidacy for Fuerza Patria. The current national deputy for Unión por la Patria has confirmed that he will seek to renew his seat in October, in a district historically adverse to Kirchnerism. Everything indicates that this is more of a political gesture than a real competition.

Carro, chairman of the Communications and Informatics Committee in the Chamber of Deputies, defeated Grabois supporter Constanza San Pedro in the primaries. Although she could be included on the list, the ticket reflects the limited room for maneuver of the group. With three Peronist factions and a strengthened La Libertad Avanza, Carro's candidacy points to a historic defeat.

The candidate will face the yet-to-be-confirmed LLA candidate, Juan Schiaretti (provincial ruling party), and Natalia De la Sota ("Let's Defend Córdoba"). The latter, although she presents herself as an opponent to Milei, received criticism from Carro for her support of projects.

Internal divisions and conflicting narratives

Carro accused De la Sota of being part of a "collector" list for Schiarettism promoted by Governor Martín Llaryora. In his view, the strategy seeks to gather votes from both the right and the left to later unify forces. "I have no doubt about that," he stated, pointing to what he considers maneuvers by the provincial power.

The deputy also questioned the role of Cordobesismo in relation to the national government. He claimed that Llaryora appears to be an opponent while supporting key laws such as the Ley Bases, facilitating Milei's austerity measures. "I don't really buy it," he insisted, in a direct criticism of the provincial ruling party's double discourse.

Meanwhile, Carro defended the centrality of Kirchnerism in any Peronist project. He vindicated the figure of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, whom he described as "the most attacked by the real power."

A residual candidacy

The outlook for Fuerza Patria is complex. Córdoba has reduced Kirchnerism to a minimal expression, with increasingly lower percentages in recent elections. The sweeping effect of Javier Milei threatens to deepen that decline.

Carro keeps that his proposal is an alternative to the "austerity model" and not merely a token resistance. However, his real chances clash with a predominantly anti-Kirchnerist electorate and fierce internal competition within Córdoba's Peronism.

Meanwhile, polls show liberal forces dominating over any expression of Kirchnerist progressivism. Carro's bet could end up as a last attempt to maintain a presence in the lower house.
