The new career path for investigators that will modernize the PFA has already been published in the Official Gazette
The National Ministry of Security officially announced this Tuesday, through Resolution 1291/2025 published in the Official Gazette, the creation of the "Crime Investigator for Professionals" Career Track, a new recruitment system for the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) aimed at attracting university graduates in strategic fields.
The measure, which had been previously announced by Minister Patricia Bullrich, is part of the institutional reform process driven by Decree 383/2025, which seeks to modernize and elevate the functioning of the federal force. The new framework aims to add technical and professional profiles with specialized training to strengthen criminal investigation and the prevention of complex crime.
"Do you want to be a detective? We're looking for you", Bullrich had posted days earlier on her social media, when announcing the call for applications.

The Committee will be composed of authorities from the Ministry of Security and senior PFA officers, who will assess the suitability and profile of the candidates through an exclusive examination.
Institutional modernization and internal professionalization
The creation of the career track seeks to update the profile and hierarchy of the PFA's senior staff, incorporating professionals with technical knowledge in criminal investigation, cybercrime, finance, and organized crime.
Meanwhile, the resolution also creates a Professionalization and Advancement Program for Subordinates, aimed at active personnel who can demonstrate higher education and proven experience in areas such as Drug Trafficking, Federal Investigations, or Criminal Intelligence.
The Interinstitutional Selection Committee will define each year the admission quota, priority profiles, and admission protocol guidelines, while the Federal Police will be responsible for designing the study programs and the institutional dissemination of the new system.

The new PFA statute and the shift toward complex crime
The initiative is part of the structural reform of the PFA established by Decree 383/2025, which redefined the force's mission: to prevent, detect, and investigate federal and complex crimes, with an emphasis on dismantling criminal organizations.
The new statute reorganized the structure into two central areas: the Federal Department of Investigations (DFI) and the Federal Department of Coordination (DFC), leaving behind the old local security framework in the City of Buenos Aires.
In addition, an annual cap was set for the admission of non-commissioned officers, which will be progressively reduced, and it was established that the resources saved will be allocated to a Modernization Program focused on technology, equipment, and state-of-the-art investigative processes.
