In the midst of the controversy generated by the mockery from foreigners after the defeat of the Argentine National Team in the final of the 2026 World Cup, the Buenos Aires legislator from Peronism, Leandro Santoro, came out to defend immigrants and rejected the proposal to charge them for the use of public health and education.
Santoro's positioning comes after the Buenos Aires deputy from La Libertad Avanza, Agustín Romo, presented a project to charge for healthcare and university studies for foreigners without permanent residency in the province of Buenos Aires.
The initiative arose after the viralization of posts from foreign students studying in the country, who celebrated the defeat with mockery towards Argentina, its national symbols, and the Malvinas Cause.
Far from questioning those behaviors, Santoro targeted those who promote restrictions on foreigners' access to public services funded by Argentine money.
Through his account on the social network X, the leader spread a critical message towards the government of Javier Milei and the proposals that seek to modify the current regime.
He added: "Everything is so delusional that they surely won't understand this comment. ARGENTINA IS NOT RACIST, THE ULTRA-RIGHT IS."
