The dispute between Petroquímica Río Tercero and the chemical union escalated after the breakdown of the negotiation table held this Tuesday afternoon. The conflict, which began in October 2024, intensified with successive layoffs that left more than two hundred workers out of the plant. Since July, production activity has remained paralyzed, generating concern in the sector and the local community.
The situation worsened with a criminal complaint filed by the company, which blamed the union for alleged acts of violence during the occupation. The company claims there was material damage and retention of personnel, although the union rejects those accusations and keeps that the action is peaceful. The conflicting accounts make it difficult for both parties to reach an agreement and prolong the stalemate.
For the union, the main demand is the reinstatement of dismissed workers without salary reduction, in addition to the payment of outstanding severance. Meanwhile, the company argues that the plant is oversized and that without production it can't take on further commitments. Both parties admit they will try to resume talks, although no date has been confirmed.
