A violent episode of insecurity took place in the early hours of this Thursday on the 9 de Julio Sur Highway, where a police officer shot one of the criminals who attempted to rob him while riding a motorcycle.
The incident occurred at the height of Avenida Suárez, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Barracas, and caused significant traffic complications, with only one lane open in the direction of the City of Buenos Aires.
According to the information that emerged, the episode was triggered when three criminals riding a motorcycle intercepted another motorcyclist with clear intentions of robbery. In that context, the assailants kicked him to force him to stop and carry out the robbery.
However, the victim turned out to be a police officer, who in the midst of the attack drew his service weapon and fired shots at the violent criminals.
As a result, one of the assailants was hit by the bullets and died at the scene. According to police sources, he was a minor.
The operation
In the area, officers from the City Police worked alongside personnel from the Scientific Police and Urban Highways Public Limited Company (AUSA), who are carrying out forensic tasks to reconstruct the sequence and determine the exact circumstances of the confrontation.
The initial alert was issued by the highway concession company, which requested the intervention of SAME after the incident was reported past 5 AM. However, police sources indicated that the first officers arrived around 4:45 AM, after receiving a report about a “fallen” person on the roadway.
At first, the initial hypothesis pointed to a traffic accident. However, as the first forensic investigations progressed, it was confirmed that it was an attempted robbery that led to an armed confrontation.
The case is in the hands of Juvenile Court No. 06, headed by Carlos Federico Cociancich, who will have to determine the responsibilities and the legal framework of the officer's actions in the context of the attempted robbery, in what is a clear self-defense.
Meanwhile, the police and forensic operation continues in the area, causing significant delays at one of the main access points to the City at the start of the day.
