The English league leads the global market value by a wide margin, while the Brasileirão is consolidating itself as the main non-European competition

The power of money is once again setting the pace of world soccer. Looking ahead to the 2026 season, the combined market value of the main leagues on the planet reached a record figure:44.078 billion euros, equivalent to about 51.430 billion dollars. The figure comes from the latest annual report by the British specialized site Winsportsonline, which starkly exposes the growing concentration of resources and talent.

The survey, titled "The most valuable soccer leagues in the world in 2026", confirms the absolute dominance of the Premier League. The English competition tops the ranking with a total value of 12.560 billion euros, a figure that not only places it at the summit, but also far exceeds the combined total of Spain's La Liga (5.450 billion) and Italy's Serie A (5.360 billion).

According to the study, this advantage reflects the economic strength of English soccer and its ability to attract and retain elite players in a global context where transfer fees and salaries continue to rise. It is not an isolated figure, since twelve leagues around the world already exceed the threshold of 1.000 billion euros in the accumulated value of their squads, a clear sign of the polarization of the business.

The so-called "Big Five" in Europe keeps its hegemony. Behind the Premier, La Liga, and Serie A are the German Bundesliga with 4.800 billion euros and France's Ligue 1 with 3.840 billion. These five competitions concentrate most of the human capital of professional soccer and constitute the sport's most lucrative core.

The South American landscape

Outside Europe, Brazil emerges as the main benchmark. The Brasileirão has consolidated itself as the sixth most valuable league in the world, with 1.810 billion euros, driven by the arrival of private capital and the repatriation of players who were competing in the Old Continent.

With almost half the value, the Argentine Professional League appears in 14th place with 929.69 million euros, just below the select group that exceeds 1.000 billion. Meanwhile, as the current leadership of the AFA keeps insisting on an Argentine soccer that is increasingly less attractive and less profitable, the outlook doesn't seem likely to improve in the short term.

The definitive leap will depend, among other factors, on retaining young prospects, increasing private investment (whether through SADs or other models), improving television revenue, and strengthening commercial agreements.

In a similar position is Liga MX in Mexico, with around 900 million euros, which reaffirms it as one of the strongest competitions on the continent outside Brazil. Further behind are other South American leagues such as Colombia (172 million), Uruguay (164 million), and Chile (152 million), with values far removed from the elite.
