Renault Argentina confirmed that in September the official presentation of the new Niagara will take place, the compact pick-up manufactured at the Santa Isabel Factory in Córdoba. The model will be exported from the Córdoba plant to the entire region.

The so-called “Global Reveal” was anticipated a day earlier by the CEO of Renault Argentina, Pablo Sibilla, in an interview with the Bloomberg agency. The event is expected to be attended by the international CEO of the brand, Fabrice Cambolive.

How much will Renault invest in the production of the Niagara

As Sibilla explained, the Niagara represents an unusual case in the Argentine automotive industry: it will be the first vehicle in the country to have exclusive global industrialization.

The investment is around 350 million euros, with a production volume of between 40,000 and 60,000 units per year. More than 50% of that production will be allocated to export, adding to the volume already exported from the Kangoo.

What features will the new Renault pick-up have

Sibilla defined the Niagara as “a half-ton pick-up”, referring to its load capacity. With that classification, the model will compete directly with other compact pick-ups in the segment.

  • BYD Mako (upcoming launch)

All these models are manufactured in Brazil. The Niagara will replace the Renault Oroch, which is finishing its production in the neighboring country.

What platform does the Niagara share with the Boreal

The new pick-up will share a large part of its components with the Boreal, Renault's Brazilian SUV. Both models will use the same platform, the same mechanics, and several design elements in the cabin.

Like the Boreal, it is expected that in a second stage a hybrid version of the Niagara will be offered, with an electric rear axle that would allow for all-wheel drive.

The future of the Santa Isabel Factory

The Niagara will be the second model in production at the Santa Isabel Factory, which has reduced its activity in recent months after closing several assembly lines.

The plant stopped manufacturing the models Renault Logan, Sandero, Stepway, Alaskan, and Nissan Frontier.

Photos of the Niagara tests in Córdoba

A photographer from Autoblog, Matías Basavilbaso, captured a camouflaged unit of the Niagara this week conducting tests around the Santa Isabel Factory.

According to the photographer, the unit has been circulating for a month in the South Zone of Córdoba Capital, in the Las Flores neighborhood, near the Renault plant.

Renault confirmed the tests with an official statement

An hour after the original publication of the article, Renault Argentina released an official statement about the tests being conducted with the prototypes of the Niagara.

The company also shared a video explaining the name Niagara, which is written without an accent and has prosodic stress on the second “a”.
