The elimination of River Plate against Independiente Santa Fe in the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana generated repercussions beyond the field. One of the voices that emerged after the defeat was that of Ricardo Centurión, who posted a message on social media that was quickly linked to Eduardo Coudet, now the former coach of the Núñez team.
Minutes after the Colombian team prevailed in the penalty shootout and knocked out the Millonario, Centurión wrote in an Instagram story: “Everything comes back. How long I’ve been waiting for this hahahahaha.”
Although he did not directly mention Coudet in that post, the context made it clear who the message was directed at. Shortly after, Centurión himself confirmed that interpretation during the streaming conducted by Davoo Xeneize and Gastón Edul.
Centurión explained his message against Coudet
The former Boca Juniors player referred to the episode he had with Coudet during the coach's tenure at Racing in 2019, and stated that he still remembers the attitude the coach had after that conflict.
“Clearly yes, it was because of that because with me he was not an honest guy, beyond me always taking responsibility for messing up. After being a month lying around in Tita Mattiussi, I went to knock on the locker room door at the Cilindro and he didn’t answer me. That was more than anything, because that’s when you see the true men. To apologize and go home and then continue training in the Reserve, but it wasn’t like that. After all the things he does, he doesn’t do well at any club, he only became champion at Racing and didn’t call me to lift the trophy. This is not pain or resentment, well, take it however you want. I’m not interested,” Centurión expressed in a WhatsApp audio sent to Edul.
The conflict between Ricardo Centurión and Eduardo Coudet
The relationship between the two was marked by an episode that occurred on February 10, 2019, when Coudet was coaching Racing and Centurión was part of that squad.
The scene took place during a match against River at the Monumental stadium. The Academy was losing 2-0 and the coach decided to send the forward onto the field when the match was practically decided.
From that episode, one of the most remembered internal conflicts of Coudet's cycle at Racing was triggered. Now, several years later, River's elimination from the Copa Sudamericana has brought that story back to the forefront.
