
River won't have fans for the first Libertadores match at Monumental.
Despite the club's attempts to overturn the sanction, Conmebol confirmed it and River plays with an empty stadium.
The Millionaire goes from bad news to bad news, first the penalty shootout loss to Talleres in the Supercopa Internacional and now a confirmation that hurts a lot:River will not be able to have fans in the first match of the Copa Libertadores at the Estadio Más Monumental.
After the match against Atlético Mineiro in the second leg of the last Libertadores semifinals, where River put on one of the most spectacular receptions ever seen,the club was sanctioned with a fine of 205 thousand dollars and one match without an audience in the next edition of the cup due to the excessive use of pyrotechnics when both teams entered the field, racist chants, and other minor issues. Meanwhile,the team must display a giant banner condemning racism, as well as on the stadium screens and its official social media.

Despite the management's efforts to avoid the Conmebol sanction, recentlyjournalist Germán García Grova confirmed that the Appeals Commission ratified the initial punishment, dismissing the presentation made by River through its legal department.
On March 17th, the draw for the Copa Libertadores will take place, which will determine the group and the fixture that the Millionaire will face in the coming months, and alsothe opponent with whom they will not have an audience at home.
In addition to River, the South American entity ratified the sanctions to two other teams:Cruzeiro and Peñarol. As for the Brazilian team, it received a fine of 157,500 dollars and its most immediate international match without an audience, which will be for the Copa Sudamericana, while the Carbonero, which was also sanctioned for excessive pyrotechnics,was fined 263 thousand dollars and 3 continental matches without the presence of its fans, in its case for the Copa Libertadores.
