Arnold Schwarzenegger, the man who dominated the global box office for over fifteen years with his explosive action movies, is entering a new phase in his career. His next two projects will not hit theaters but will land directly on the streaming service Prime Video. A notable shift for someone who was synonymous with blockbuster hits in the 1980s and 1990s.
The first of these productions is called The Man with the Bag, a Christmas action comedy set to premiere on December 2, 2026. In it, Schwarzenegger plays Santa Claus, whose magical bag of gifts is stolen, forcing him to team up with a former thief to get it back. The film, directed by Adam Shankman, features a cast that includes Alan Ritchson, Awkwafina, and Ken Jeong, and promises family-friendly entertainment with doses of action.
The second project, titled The Kellys, has a darker tone: it is a police thriller directed by Brad Peyton. The story follows a New York police officer whose wife is taken hostage by terrorists in an abandoned military building. Schwarzenegger is part of the family cast that helps in the rescue, although details of his role have not yet been revealed. Its release is scheduled for 2027.
This shift towards streaming raises reflections on the trajectory of the Austrian actor. After his golden years in film, his career faced significant interruptions, such as his foray into politics. Upon returning to the entertainment world in 2023, he made his television debut with the series FUBAR on Netflix, which started with good viewing numbers but failed to sustain success and was canceled after the second season.

Comparisons with Sylvester Stallone
In contrast, his eternal big-screen companion, Sylvester Stallone, has found greater continuity on television with Tulsa King, a series that already has two solidified seasons. While Stallone built a renewed image for the small format, Schwarzenegger has tried to carry his essence of action hero to streaming, with mixed results so far.
