The United States Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, praised this Tuesday the reform program being carried out by the Government of Javier Milei and highlighted the strong electoral support that the President received in 2025, particularly among the poorest sectors of society and young people.
Before holding a meeting with the Minister of Economy, Luis "Toto" Caputo, Bessent spoke with Larry Kudlow, former director of the National Economic Council, and emphasized the direction Argentina has taken during Milei's administration.
“Argentina is leading a historic opportunity in the Western Hemisphere,” the U.S. official highlighted during the conversation.
Bessent also referred to Milei's recent election and focused on the electoral behavior of sectors that previously leaned towards the left.
“If we analyze in detail the last election of President Milei, we see that the poorest sectors of society and young people supported him. So, as you mentioned, we are seeing changes in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, and Ecuador, and I believe we will see many more similar cases,” he added.
The statements from the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury came before the start of the final session of the G20 Finance. The meeting's main discussion points included the crisis in the Middle East, the supply chain, artificial intelligence, and global inflation.
In that context, Caputo was just a few meters away from Bessent, sitting alongside the rest of the Argentine economic team in the Seely Pavilion of the Ommi Park hotel. Behind them was Kristalina Georgieva, Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund.

The meeting between Bessent and Caputo is scheduled for 3 PM Argentina time. The Minister of Economy will be accompanied by Santiago Bausili, President of the Central Bank; José Luis Daza, Secretary of Economic Policy; and Vladimir Werning, Vice President of the Central Bank, who are part of the official Argentine delegation.
The meeting will take place after a series of gestures between the two officials. Last night, during the official G20 Finance dinner, Bessent seated Caputo at his table alongside the Ministers of Economy from Italy, France, Japan, and Poland. The gesture was noted from other tables occupied by officials from Europe, Asia, and the Arab League.
The political harmony between Caputo and Bessent was also evident in the U.S. official's decision to accept the request from the Treasury Palace to hold a formal meeting during the forum.
Bessent, in his capacity as host of the G20, has an agenda shaped by the requests of the 20 Ministers of Economy, the 20 Presidents of the Central Banks, and the dozens of officials and bureaucrats participating in the meeting at the five-star hotel serving as the venue for the multilateral forum.
The U.S. official will receive Caputo in his ad hoc offices at the The Ommi Grove Park Inn hotel. The meeting will frame the geopolitical ties between Donald Trump and Javier Milei and the relationship between the economic teams of both governments.
