CD Projekt Red officially confirmed the development of “Songs of the Past”, the third expansion of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. After months of rumors and leaks, the Polish studio announced that the new DLC will not arrive until 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The revelation was set to take place during a scheduled REDstream on Wednesday, May 28, but an accidental leak forced the company to move up the announcement. The expansion will be developed in collaboration with Fool’s Theory, a studio made up of several veterans who previously worked on the saga.

Geralt returns as the protagonist in The Witcher 3
One of the most important pieces of information from the announcement is that Geralt of Rivia will once again take center stage in this new adventure. According to CD Projekt, the DLC “will once again take players down the Path alongside Geralt.”
The news generates excitement because The Witcher 4 will feature Ciri as the main protagonist, meaning this expansion could become the last major story centered on the witcher for several years.
What is known about Songs of the Past
For now, CD Projekt is keeping quite tight-lipped about the content of the DLC, although various rumors suggest that the expansion will serve as a narrative bridge between The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 4.

Leaks also point to a possible exploration of Zerrikania, a region never officially seen in the games and frequently mentioned in the franchise's lore.
This territory is inspired by deserts and exotic cultures, featuring unique wildlife and new factions. Additionally, some insiders claim that the expansion could delve into how Ciri officially becomes a Witcher.
