Four state unions will stage a protest this Wednesday in Córdoba over the extraordinary contribution imposed by the provincial government. The measure demands the return of four additional points that have been deducted from public employees' salaries since December 2023. Meanwhile, as the dispute intensifies, citizens will be caught between mobilized unions and a government that is unable to balance its accounts.
Judicial, banking, municipal and Luz y Fuerza unions will march starting at 10:30 a.m., causing roadblocks that will complicate traffic on a busy weekday. Various groups will depart from union headquarters and converge downtown, where prolonged delays and improvised detours are expected. The day will be especially challenging due to the high temperatures forecast for peak hours.
The unions are demanding the elimination of the extra contribution that raised retirement deductions from 18% to 22%. They accuse the provincial government of shifting its financial disorder onto workers' salaries. Provincial officials argue that the reduced transfer of national funds is putting pressure on local accounts, without offering operational solutions to prevent further tensions.

A conflict that is escalating
The protest was decided at a meeting held at La Bancaria, where union leaders agreed to move forward with the first joint demonstration of the year. Union leaders stated that the pension emergency continues to place excessive burdens on workers, which they consider unjustified and prolonged.
The pension emergency law passed in 2023 imposed the extraordinary contribution to finance the deficit of the Pension Fund, along with new deferrals and restrictions on double pension benefits. The unions maintain that the provincial government is implementing a model that prioritizes adjustments for workers and retirees rather than reviewing political expenses and unproductive structures. This criticism is deepening in the absence of alternative proposals to ease the burden on contributors.
