The case of Santiago "Tato" Algorta gained notoriety after it was revealed that Catalina Gorostidi and Gabriela Gianatassio interfered in the preparation of a gluten-free dessert. The incident, which involved a brownie made with Lucía Patrone inside the house of Gran Hermano, reignited an interview with the participant's parents where they detailed his delicate health condition.
The young Uruguayan's parents had mentioned in January, during a conversation with journalist Diego Poggi, that their son suffered from various autoimmune diseases. "He has several and is undergoing studies. He even needs to have a genetic test because these types of diseases are very complex. The symptoms are confusing and can appear at different times," they explained.

A condition that affects vision and requires a strict diet
His mother detailed that the most concerning diagnosis was uveitis, an eye inflammation that affected Tato's vision. "He started losing his sight. He had a lot of inflammatory cells, and in extreme cases, this disease can lead to blindness," she warned.
She also mentioned that hypothyroidism had also been detected, among other issues still under study. "Gluten is highly inflammatory, so he had to completely eliminate it from his diet. He also consumes very little sugar for the same reason," she added.
A critical stage and an encouraging improvement
According to his parents, Tato also faced growth difficulties, which caused significant medical concern. "He was very small for his age, at one point something serious at the bone marrow level was suspected. Even his white blood cells showed altered values. It was a very difficult time for the whole family."
However, after implementing a strict gluten-free diet, the results began to change. "The inflammatory cells started to disappear and he began to grow. It was a huge breakthrough," they revealed with relief.
