The Government filed criminal charges against those who committed fraud in the residency exam
Presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni and Health Minister Mario Lugones confirmed it
Javier Milei's government filed a criminal complaint against those who committed fraud or were complicit in the scandal of the Medical Residency Unified Exam, held last July 1.
The measure targets applicants, mostly foreigners, who irregularly accessed the results of the exam through technological espionage devices and external collaboration.
The Minister of Health, Mario Lugones, publicly confirmed the judicial filing and explained that the decision seeks to protect the integrity of the Argentine health system. "From the Ministry of Health, we're not going to allow access to the system through deception," Lugones stated. "Admission to residencies is the first step to safeguarding the health of Argentinians: behind every doctor, there are patients who deserve the best care," he added.

"Defending merit means ensuring quality, commitment, and responsibility in healthcare," the Minister of Health concluded in his social media post.
Meanwhile, presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni reinforced the message with a post on his account: "We're not going to allow access to medical positions fraudulently, putting everyone's lives at risk. We've just filed the criminal complaint against all those who cheated or were complicit in the scam in the medical residency exam. Whoever commits the crime, pays the price. End."
The scandal erupted after the release of a video showing an applicant filming the exam with a hidden camera in his glasses. According to the preliminary investigation, the recorded material was sent to third parties who answered the questions and returned the correct answers to the candidate, who then transcribed them onto the official sheet. In total, 268 candidates were placed under review, the vast majority of whom are graduates of foreign universities, particularly from Ecuador.

In response, the Ministry of Health decided to provisionally invalidate the results of all exams with anomalous scores. An individual reevaluation process was established, which includes a new written test, oral interviews, and analysis of each applicant's academic record.
The decision to proceed with a criminal complaint represents a forceful measure by the national government in its fight against fraud in access to the public system, especially by foreigners who have the privilege of being able to use it.
Javier Milei's administration seeks to ensure that admission to medical residencies, a key stage in the training of future professionals, is based exclusively on individual ability and effort.
