The United States Suspended All Military Aid to Ukraine
The news comes after Trump's public dispute with the Ukrainian president at the White House.
U.S. President Donald Trump suspended all military assistance to Ukraine, with immediate effect, according to officials from his administration.
Reportedly, a senior official from the Republican government told Fox News that the aid will be halted "until the Ukrainians demonstrate a commitment to good faith peace negotiations".
This news comes after the recent confrontation between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on February 28, a meeting that disrupted plans to sign a natural resources treaty between both nations.
According to a senior administration official, cited by the New York Times, Trump was set to meet on March 3 with his top national security advisors, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
During this meeting, various strategies related to Ukraine were evaluated and key foreign policy decisions were made.
Previously, Zelensky had reiterated the need for the United States to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine, arguing that these resources are essential to strengthen Kyiv's position in potential peace negotiations with Russia.
In early February, Reuters reported that there had been intense debates within the U.S. government about whether Washington should maintain the supply of weapons to Ukraine or not.
Since the start of the large-scale Russian invasion in February 2022, the United States allocated approximately 65.9 billion dollars in military assistance for Kyiv, a figure that is even higher when considering economic or financial assistance.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on March 2 that several European nations, including the United Kingdom and France, are promoting a "coalition of the willing". This group plans the deployment of "planes in the air and troops on the ground" with the aim of, according to them, achieving an effective ceasefire in Ukraine.
