Henry Cavill's departure from The Witcher caused a stir among Netflix fans. The series, based on the work of Andrzej Sapkowski, lost its lead actor after three seasons.
Now, Lauren Hissrich, showrunner and screenwriter of the series, has revealed the real reasons behind the decision in an interview with EW.
¿A quién interpretará Cavill?
Why did Henry Cavill leave The Witcher
According to Hissrich, Cavill decided to leave the series because he had other projects he wanted to fully commit to. "We couldn't keep someone and force him to do something he doesn't want to do," the showrunner explained.
The showrunner clarified that the separation was amicable and symbiotic, and that Cavill's decision focused on his career and taking on new roles outside the saga.
Liam Hemsworth, the new Geralt
With Cavill's departure, Netflix confirmed that Liam Hemsworth will take on the lead role in the fourth season. The production will feature eight episodes that will premiere together on October 30.
The story will follow Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri after the events that changed the fate of the Continent. Each character will take separate paths, but new allies will bring them together again later on.
Henry Cavill's future plans
Currently, Cavill is recovering from an injury to join the filming of the remake of Highlander, which will begin in 2026. His decision to leave The Witcher was part of a broader plan in his acting career.
