José Luis Espert's X account was hacked to promote a crypto scam

Jimena Aristizábal, the deputy's advisor, confirmed it on social media

A few hours ago, it was reported that the X social media account of the deputy José Luis Espert had been hacked to promote a scam based on the purchase of a cryptocurrency called "$LIBRA V2".

"The liberal revolution advances in Argentina! We are launching $LIBRA V2, a project dedicated to boosting the Argentine economy, supporting entrepreneurs and SMEs with transparent and decentralized private financing", was posted from Espert's account.

As a conclusion, they added: "Argentina has a bright future and together we will achieve it", mentioning President Javier Milei.

The attack was confirmed by Jimena Aristizábal, the legislator's advisor, who wrote on her X account: "They hacked José Luis's account, we don't have access to it. We are already trying to solve the problem. Please, those who can, RT to notify".

But the hackers didn't stop there: after the publication promoting the token, they continued uploading other messages, including an invitation to a group chat and an AI-caused image showing Espert holding a paper with the word "Libra". However, the image was deleted shortly after.

Minutes later, a new statement was published from José Luis Espert's account: "I deeply regret to inform you that my account was hacked".

"The recent messages and posts are not authored by me, and I apologize to everyone who may have been confused or misled by these malicious actions", the post explains.

Finally, it clarifies: "I am taking all necessary measures to regain control of the account and ensure this doesn't happen again. I appreciate your understanding and support at this time. We will move forward, stronger than ever!".

However, the Espert account remains hacked for the moment and it is not clear if this last message was written by the deputy or by the hacker himself.

This outlet contacted his team and they were able to confirm that the account remains hacked and that Deputy Espert doesn't have access to it.
