Luciano Castro and Griselda Siciliani have been reported for their 'forbidden' house on the coast.

Residents and authorities seek to halt the project in Mar de Cobo, within a UNESCO-protected area

Beyond the romantic rumors that have surrounded them in recent years, Luciano Castro  and Griselda Siciliani  faced a new conflict, this time far from the filming sets. The reason was their intention to build a home in Mar de Cobo, a coastal town in Mar Chiquita that captivated them from their first visit.

However, the dream of building their house in that idyllic landscape clashed with opposition from neighbors and local authorities. The project caused strong rejection and ended up becoming a topic of debate on entertainment programs and in municipal politics.

A construction in a protected area

The couple planned to build their property in an area near the Mar Chiquita lagoon, a unique ecosystem where the lagoon connects with the sea. This site was declared a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 1996, which makes it an area of extremely high environmental value with strict construction restrictions.

On LAM (América) it was revealed that the initiative caused alarm:  "It is absolutely risky to put something in such a protected, such a special place," said one of the voices on the program. Among the warnings, a local councilwoman emphasized that authorizing the project could open the door to a domino effect:  "If they allow it for them, then everyone, 70,000 people, will ask for the same thing and they'll build a shopping mall at the entrance."

The neighbors' complaint

According to the complainants, the main problem was not only the location, but that the design of the building would exceed the five meters (16 feet 5 inches) in height allowed by the local code. "Perhaps they don't have bad intentions, but before building, one must understand the importance of this place," expressed another of the testimonies broadcast on television.

Thus, the dream house of Castro and Siciliani became embroiled in an environmental controversy that could completely halt the project, in a scenario where social pressure and environmental regulations seem to work against them.
