'This is how Maradona died': the shocking photo shown by the prosecutor in the trial

Prosecutor Patricio Ferrari presented an image of Diego Maradona on the day of his death at his home in Tigre.

In the first hearing of the trial for the death of Diego Maradona, prosecutor Patricio Ferrari displayed an image from the day the soccer idol passed away. The photo shows Maradona lying in his bed, at his home in Tigre, and was used to illustrate the conditions he was in during his final hours.

"This is how Maradona died", expressed the prosecutor when presenting the image before the Oral Criminal Court (TOC) No. 3 of San Isidro. In his presentation, Ferrari argued that the former player was transferred to his home in poor conditions and without being able to make decisions about his health.

Prosecutor Ferrari pointed at the medical team

According to Ferrari, Maradona's home hospitalization was "reckless, deficient, and unprecedented". He asserted that there was no adequate medical control and that the responsible professionals did not take the necessary measures to prevent his death.

He also described the doctors in charge of Maradona's health as "improvised" and claimed it was a completely avoidable situation.

Who are the accused in the death of Diego Maradona?

Eight healthcare professionals face charges of "simple homicide with eventual intent", with sentences that can reach up to 25 years in prison:

  • Leopoldo Luque - Neurosurgeon.
  • Agustina Cosachov - Psychiatrist.
  • Ricardo Almirón - Nurse.
  • Mariano Perroni - Head of nurses.
  • Pedro Pablo Di Spagna - Clinical doctor.
  • Nancy Edith Forlini - Swiss Medical coordinator doctor.
  • Carlos Díaz - Psychologist.

According to the prosecution, all of them played a key role in Maradona's home hospitalization and did not ensure his proper medical care.

The harsh accusation of Fernando Burlando

The lawyer for Dalma and Giannina Maradona did not hesitate to point out that what happened with Diego was a "murder". In radio statements, he argued that the former player's family was deceived and that Maradona was hospitalized in undignified conditions.

"He was hospitalized and practically left abandoned", stated Burlando. He also claimed that until November 24, his life could have been saved with a simple emergency call.

"Anyone who had seen the noticeable symptoms and called a clinic knew what to do", he sentenced.

Burlando suggested that there was someone behind the choice of the medical team that attended to Maradona and hinted at suspicions about those responsible. "Someone hired them and this led to this result", he stated.
