Total success: The United States collected 29 billion in tariffs in July

The amount collected from tariffs is expected to reach 300 billion by the end of the year, which would mark the culmination of a successful trade policy

The tariff policy implemented by President Donald Trump last April enabled the United States to collect over 29 billion dollars in July, marking the highest monthly total to date.

July's figures raise the total revenue collected from tariffs so far this year to more than 152 billion dollars, according to the latest data from the Customs and Determined Excise Taxes Division, which reports to the Department of the Treasury.

The United States could collect more than 300 billion.

Since Trump announced "Liberation Day" on April 2 of this year, tariff revenues have increased steadily. 17.4 billion dollars were collected in April and 23.9 billion in May, followed by a significant increase in June that reached 28 billion.

Trump administration officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, have previously stated that tariffs could generate more than 300 billion dollars in revenue for the federal government.

This revenue could be used to alleviate the gigantic public debt currently held by the United States or, as the White House has suggested, to issue rebate checks to consumers in the event of a temporary inflationary increase caused by these tariffs.

In recent weeks, Trump has launched an aggressive increase in tariffs on countries that are internally committing abuses or injustices, such as Brazil with the judicial prosecution of former President Bolsonaro or India, which continues to purchase the Russian oil that finances Putin's war in Ukraine.
