The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Tuesday that the most commonly used medications by Americans will be available at much lower prices. This measure is possible after pharmaceutical giant Pfizercommitted to investing $70 billion to manufacture medications on American soil (31,751,465,000 kilograms).
A new website, called TrumpRX, will allow Americans to purchase medications directly from the government without intermediaries. According to the White House, almost all medications will be available at discounted prices, in a new scheme that will be known as the "most favored nation price."
Under this new scheme, treatments for dermatitis, for example, will have an 80% discount. Remedies for diseases such as postmenopausal osteoporosis will have an 85% discount; for migraines, there will be a 50% reduction, and for rheumatoid arthritis, the discount will reach 40%.

Pfizer will produce the medications in the US
The $70 billion investment (31,751,465,000 kilograms) by the pharmaceutical giant includes a plan to begin producing medications in the US. This move was applauded by the officials in Trump's health department, who emphasized that research and development will not stop, but will no longer be funded solely by American citizens.
The commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Dr. Marty Makary, described these changes as the "end of the great American heist" and indicated that the rest of the world was benefiting from lower prices at the expense of his compatriots' work.
Makary expressed his frustration as a physician, explaining that he has seen his patients struggle to pay for medications that are five or ten times more expensive in the US than in other countries such as the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. Meanwhile, Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), also supported the plan.
The creation of TrumpRX and Pfizer's most recent announcement with its pricing plan follow a scheme that was outlined by the current president at the end of July. At that time, Trump was clear that he planned to put an end—through tariffs and other methods—to what he described as "global exploitation" by other developed nations.
