The President of the United States, Donald Trump, authorized on Saturday the use of military troops to protect the city of Portland and any Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities (in English, ICE) from attacks by the left-wing terrorist group Antifa.

The presidential announcement was made on the Truth Social platform and comes after a request from the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem. In it, Trump emphasizes that he is "authorizing the use of all necessary force, if needed."

"I am ordering the Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary troops to protect war-ravaged Portland and any of our ICE facilities that are under siege by attacks from Antifa and other domestic terrorists," wrote the president.

The terrorist group Antifa besieges Portland

After the murder of commentator Charlie Kirk on a university campus in Utah last September 10 was carried out by a member of the far-left group Antifa named Tyler Robinson, Trump legally designated this group as a terrorist organization last Thursday through an executive order.

During the signing of the decree, Vice President JD Vance highlighted that in Portland, a city located in the Democratic state of Oregon, buildings belonging to ICE are being besieged by Antifa. "I think it was in Oregon, where there was a federal building with men in black balaclavas who were committing acts of violence, who were shutting down a government building," Vance said.

"These are paid individuals. This is organized," Vance added. "They are committing acts of political terrorism on American soil, and it is time we have a government that protects the American people instead of those who are committing violence against them."

In line with the statements of his running mate, Trump indicated that the federal government will soon intervene in Portland to restore order. "These people are insane and they are trying to set buildings on fire, including federal buildings. We are going to go there and we are going to seriously confront those people in Portland who are doing that. They are professional agitators and anarchists. They are truly anarchists."
