The president of the United States, Donald Trump, dropped a political bomb this Monday by warning the candidate for New York City mayor, Zohran Mamdani, that he won't receive a single cent of federal funds if he plans to implement his communist government program.
"He's going to have problems with Washington like no other mayor in the history of what was once our great city," the president remarked on his Truth Social platform. "Remember, he needs money from me, as president, to fulfill all his false communist promises. He's not going to get any of that, so what's the point of voting for him?"
Mamdani secured victory in the June primaries, defeating incumbent mayor Eric Adams and former state governor Andrew Cuomo. Nearly four months after those elections, Adams withdrew his candidacy and Democrats are closing ranks around Cuomo to prevent the Ugandan communist from becoming the new mayor in the November general election.

Mamdani's Socialist Proposals
Among the measures the current candidate has promised his voters, a $100 million fund to pay for lawyers for illegal immigrants facing deportation proceedings stands out. He has also said that he will allocate $700 million to make city bus transportation completely free.
The other cornerstone of his program is the provision of 200,000 units of housing subsidized by the municipal government. Additionally, if Mamdani is elected mayor, he will create a new Department of Community Safety to strip the New York police of tasks such as traffic control and handling the homeless.
On his platform, Mamdani proudly promotes proposals that consist of turning private housing into "community land trusts," defunding the police, and flooding the city's budget with new departments and social programs. He has even promised to create a "Trump-proof New York."
To fulfill his socialist dream, the Ugandan politician needs, in addition to higher corporate taxes, help from Washington, that is, for the White House to provide the necessary federal funds, especially regarding his ambitious public housing and infrastructure program. This is something Trump has already made clear will not become a reality.
