This Tuesday, September 8, TV Globo put an end to the rumors and officially confirmed that Avenida Brasil will have a second season. The Brazilian network announced it through its official social media with a video showing several folders on a computer. When opening the one corresponding to the telenovela, the specific premiere date appeared.
At the end of the message, the broadcaster wrote: “Avenida Brasil 2, the sequel, premieres in January 2027.” With that simple and direct phrase, the most important fiction producer in Brazil ended the uncertainty that had been established since last year when rumors about a possible return began to circulate.
The first season of Avenida Brasil aired in 2012 and became an audience phenomenon both in its country of origin and in several Latin American markets. The story of Nina, Jorgito, Carmiña, and the rest of the cast marked an era and left a vivid memory among the audience.
So far, no details about the plot of the sequel have been revealed. The network limited itself to confirming the premiere and assuring that many of the actors who participated in the original version will return to portray their characters.
The early comment from Cauã Reymond
Weeks before the official announcement, actor Cauã Reymond, who played Jorgito, had already spoken about the possibility of a return. On August 5, he was invited to the show Cortá por Lozano and did not shy away from the question.
“We don’t know if Avenida Brasil 2 is coming, I would love for it to happen, it’s a wish of everyone,” said the actor. He added: “There’s been a lot of talk, there’s a possibility of Avenida Brasil 2.”
Reymond even dared to imagine how the characters might be more than a decade later. “Jorgito is surely married to Nina and Carmiña must take revenge, she’s very bad,” he commented. And he ended with humor: “We no longer have Max, who is dead, but I like the idea of a ghost, it has depth to talk with my dad’s ghost.”
Those statements, made when there was still no concrete confirmation, now carry a different weight. The actor made it clear that the original cast views the possibility of resuming the story positively and that, at least in his case, the interest remains intact.
What is known so far
So far, the only thing TV Globo has officially confirmed is the existence of the sequel and the premiere date: January 2027. It has not yet been announced who will be in charge of the script, whether the same directing team will be maintained, or which other actors, besides the “iconic” ones, will be part of the cast.
It is also unknown whether the story will pick up exactly where the first season ended or if it will advance several years in the lives of the characters. This information, as expected, will gradually emerge as the release date approaches.
