UCR Córdoba suspended its internal elections scheduled for August 10 amid intense tensions

Carasso withdrew his list and the party congress disobeyed a court ruling that ordered the election

Córdoba's Radicalism once again found itself at the center of the scene due to an internal dispute that ended without elections. The Executive Board of the Congress called a virtual meeting to address central issues. The meeting resulted in a vote that suspended the internal elections scheduled for this Sunday.

Previously, Marcos Carasso had submitted a list with which he sought to intervene between De Loredo and Mestre. The former party leader had the support of leaders from the provincial interior. However, three hours later he decided to withdraw his candidacy and expressed himself in harsh terms against the process.

Strong clash between factions and Carasso's withdrawal

The "Más Radicalismo" list was challenged by "Generación X" due to errors in the data submission. Once the mistakes were corrected, Mestre and his allies re-officialized the candidacy. However, Carasso surprised everyone by launching his own slate, with the backing of interior leaders and dissatisfied officials.

The faction of the former president of the provincial UCR sought to distance itself from the conflict between the other two groups. The initiative emerged as a response to the fragmentation caused after Negri's candidacy. The slate was accompanied by leaders such as Cecilia Fernández, Ernesto Gavier, and Ariel Dalmasso.

That same Tuesday afternoon, Carasso decided to withdraw his list after the expected resolution from Judge Vaca Narvaja did not arrive. In his words, he stated: "We are not going to take part in this circus." "What happened today is a farce," he said as he closed his virtual intervention before the connected delegates.

The Congress suspended the scheduled internal elections

While the party awaited a judicial decision, access to the Radical Congress's Zoom was enabled.Mestre, Montoya, and other leaders decided not to participate in the virtual meeting because they considered it outside the law. Facundo Cortez Olmedo disconnected from the event, which he also described as invalid.

With 96 delegates present, "Generación X" reached the necessary number to move forward with the proposed topics. One of the approved points was to suspend Article 99 of the Bylaws. That article establishes the internal election mechanism within Córdoba's Radical Party.

The resolution contradicts the previous ruling by Judge Vaca Narvaja, which ordered elections on Sunday the 10th. Despite this, the Congress ratified the suspension of the vote. The submitted slates were put up for consideration, but the final decision was made once the day's edition had closed.
