The United States is preparing to announce a series of trade agreements

Thanks to the relationship between Milei and Trump, Argentina would be one of the main beneficiaries of the agreements

The United States Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, confirmed that Donald Trump's administration is about to announce "a series of trade agreements" with various countries, among which Argentina would stand out as one of the main strategic allies in the region.

During an interview given to the program Mornings With Maria on Fox Business Network, Bessent explained that bilateral trade negotiations are advancing rapidly and broadly.

"We're about to announce a series of trade agreements," the official confirmed. Although he avoided providing a detailed list, in recent weeks numerous sources close to the matter have confirmed that Argentina would be part of the package of agreements about to be revealed, and would be in a privileged position compared to other countries, especially in Latin America.

Expectations are rising in Buenos Aires, where Javier Milei's government is finalizing details for a possible joint announcement with United States President Donald Trump, focused on the reduction of tariffs on more than 100 Argentine products. The agreement would include rates ranging from 0% to 10%, and would seek to restore preferential access conditions for various products.

The agreement, which would temporarily exclude sensitive sectors such as steel and aluminum, still subject to 50% tariffs and pending negotiation, would mark a milestone for Milei's foreign policy and advance his alignment with Trump's Republican government.

The measure would also reflect a gesture of strategic reciprocity for the explicit support that the Argentine administration has given in international forums to Washington's diplomatic positions.

In another part of the interview, Bessent highlighted that an important part of his international agenda consists of pressuring countries such as China and India to stop buying sanctioned Russian oil, and confirmed that he will maintain contacts with his European counterparts to coordinate tougher sanctions against Moscow, with the goal of forcing Vladimir Putin to sign peace with Ukraine.

The official announcement of the agreement between the United States and Argentina could take place in the coming days, although it depends on Trump's availability. If it materializes, it would be the greatest bilateral rapprochement in trade matters in decades, and could open the door to future United States investments in key sectors such as energy, mining, and technology.
