Pablo Solari had a night impossible to forget in Russia, although for the wrong reasons. The Argentine forward was decisive in the Spartak Moscow's triumph in the Russian Cup, but he also went viral for an unusual incident during the celebrations: he accidentally broke the trophy while lifting it in front of the fans.
The former player of River paved the way for the title by scoring the only goal for his team in the 1-1 draw against Krasnodar during regulation time of the final. Then, Spartak won 4-3 in the penalty shootout and lifted the trophy for the 32nd time in its history.
Another Argentine who played a key role in the final was Esequiel Barco, also with a past at Millonario, who scored one of the decisive penalties before the final save by the goalkeeper that sealed the victory for the team coached by Juan Carlos Carcedo.
However, the most talked-about moment of the night came after the triumph. In the middle of the victory lap, Solari took the cup and approached the side of the field to show it off to the cameras and fans, but when he lifted it, the bottom base of the trophy detached and fell to the ground, breaking into several pieces.
The immediate reaction was one of surprise and laughter. The forward himself took the situation with humor, while his teammates and the fans joined in laughter at the accident that quickly went viral on social media.
Spartak Moscow also joined in the jokes and posted the video of the moment on its official accounts along with an ironic message: "How Solari destroyed the cup". They then added: "He escaped the consequences. After all, he scored". The 25-year-old Argentine forward later shared the images on Instagram accompanied by laughing emojis.
Solari arrived in Russian football in February 2025 after being transferred from River for a fee close to 12 million euros and signed a contract until June 2029. The Russian Cup represents his first title in the country and the seventh of his professional career.
