A renowned motion capture actress managed to control six humanoid robots in real time, replicating each of her movements. The demonstration took place during a technology event in Shanghai and quickly caught attention on social media.

The star of the show was Xixiyu Sakana, a popular Chinese artist specialized in motion capture. During the presentation, she even executed movements associated with the famous "Torture Dance" from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, a reference that sparked the interest of anime and technology fans.

How she managed to control six humanoid robots at the same time

The artist used a motion capture suit equipped with special markers that are tracked by cameras in real time.

The system records every body movement, transforms that information into digital data, and then an artificial intelligence converts that data into commands that the robots execute in a synchronized manner.

The humanoids used were Unitree G1 units, one of the most advanced robotic platforms developed by the Chinese company Unitree.

The technology behind the demonstration

The exhibition was part of an event organized in Shanghai by the technology company CHINGMU along with the American processor manufacturer AMD.

According to the organizers, the system was capable of performing three-dimensional reconstruction, marker identification, and digital skeleton resolution with a latency of less than 12 milliseconds. The infrastructure included:

  • 76 optical motion capture cameras.

  • Approximately 5,300 body markers.

  • 100 participants registered simultaneously.

  • Real-time processing of all movements.

A record for real-time motion capture

The demonstration was part of an even more ambitious test that recorded the movements of 100 people at the same time.

The data obtained was used to build a huge library of movements intended for training humanoid robots and artificial intelligence systems.

The companies involved claimed that this is the first real-time motion capture system for 100 people whose information has been publicly verified.

Why robots cannot exactly copy human movements

Although the results were striking, specialists explain that human movements cannot be directly transferred to a robot.

Differences in weight, balance, body proportions, and joints require adapting each action so that it can be executed safely.

For this reason, motion capture data is often used as a basis for training, imitation learning, and teleoperation of robots.
