A violent storm battered the city of Villa Dolores around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, causing the immediate collapse of the local drainage systems. The intense rainfall was accompanied by strong wind gusts and hail that caused power outages in several neighborhoods in the area. The meteorological phenomenon developed in a matter of minutes, generating a rapid accumulation of water that left the streets impassable.
Residents expressed their outrage over the lack of hydraulic works, which is a recurrent problem every time it rains heavily in the city. Social unrest increased because the flooding occurred just a few days after the inauguration of a central pedestrian street financed with public funds. The community is questioning the priority of municipal spending on urban aesthetics while serious shortcomings in basic infrastructure persist.
Civil Defense reported the fall of trees and light poles, in addition to roofs being blown off private homes and businesses in the southern area. The authorities requested that people avoid vehicular traffic while municipal crews and firefighters worked to clear the roads quickly. The National Meteorological Service is maintaining a yellow alert for severe storms that could include intense electrical activity in the area.
