The Argentine National Team is experiencing hours of concern due to Nicolás Tagliafico's injury. The left-back suffered a strain in his soleus muscle, raising alarms in Lionel Scaloni's team, although they remain optimistic about his recovery for the third group match.
This Thursday, the AFA confirmed Marcos Senesi as Leonardo Balerdi's replacement on the list, but the question of possible changes to the main squad remains open. Many are wondering how long there is a margin to modify the roster ahead of the World Cup.
FIFA has established clear rules regarding this. All teams can replace injured players up to 24 hours before their debut in the competition. In Argentina's case, which kicks off on Tuesday, June 16 at 10 PM against Algeria, the deadline is Monday the 15th at the same time.
Requirements for a change
For the change to be approved, two main conditions must be met: there must be a confirmed injury of the player and the replacement must come from the preliminary list of 55 players presented by Scaloni. In the hypothetical case that Tagliafico is not fit, the AFA must present the corresponding medical reports and, upon approval, the coach could call someone like Marcos Acuña, who is on that preliminary list.
This possibility brings some relief to the coaching staff, although they prefer not to reach that point. The player's progress is being closely monitored, and they are confident he will be available to face Jordan on the third matchday.
