Jasmine Crockett, one of the most unpleasant figures of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, found herself at the center of a new controversy after using a U.S. Congressional hearing to join the international smear campaign against Argentina.
The representative for Texas's 30th District linked the international support received by Spain during the final of the 2026 World Cup to what she defined, without providing any evidence, as a supposed “racist history” of the South American country.
The comment came while lawmakers were questioning historian David Blight and Anthea Hartig about the Smithsonian Institution and the National Museum of American History. Crockett unexpectedly decided to introduce the outcome of the World Cup into a discussion that had nothing to do with soccer.
“The last two teams were Argentina and Spain,” began the woke leader. She then asked why a part of the world seemed to be against the Argentine team.
Blight responded with a considerably simpler explanation: Spain might have been the better team, and that could be the reason why many people supported the European side. Crockett laughed and claimed that “there is also a racist history” linked to Argentina.

Born in 1981, Crockett is a lawyer and developed part of her career as a public defender and activist specializing in "civil rights." Before arriving in Washington, she served in the Texas House of Representatives and, since January 2023, holds a federal seat for a district that includes parts of Dallas and Tarrant.
She currently serves on the Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees of the House of Representatives. She also holds internal leadership positions among the Democrats and has built her profile around progressive immigration policies, abortion, and the defense of criminals under racial arguments.

Crockett had already generated controversies for her attacks against Republican leaders. In 2025, she called Greg Abbott, the Texas governor who has used a wheelchair since an accident in 1984, “Governor Hot Wheels.” In response to the criticism, the legislator claimed she was referring to his policy of relocating illegal immigrants to cities governed by Democrats.

Her intervention against Argentina is part of a progressive rhetoric that turns any discussion into a racial battle to amplify her position as "defenders of the defenseless" and has now reached the extreme of using the U.S. Congress to disqualify an entire country based on the outcome of a soccer match.
