With Argentina close to qualifying, the 2026 World Cup already has five confirmed teams.

New Zealand joined the qualifiers after defeating New Caledonia 3-0 in the Oceanic qualifiers

New Zealand has secured a spot in the 2026 World Cup and technically will be the only representative from Oceania in the World Cup. This Monday, the team confirmed its qualification for the most important tournament on the planet  after defeating New Caledonia 3-0 in Auckland. The goals were scored by Michael Boxall, Kosta Barbarouses, and Elijah Just.

Although the "All Whites" are the only ones to qualify via Oceania qualifiers, the other country from that continent that can enter next year's World Cup is Australia. The case of the "Socceroos" is particular, as even though it is part of Oceania, being in fact the largest country in that continent, in 2006 it moved to the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) in search of greater competition and sporting level.

With this thrashing against New Caledonia, New Zealand is the second team to qualify for the World Cup and the fifth team with a guaranteed presence. The other confirmed countries are the hosts, United States, Mexico, and Canada, and Japan, which secured its qualification after its home victory against Bahrain by 2 to 0.

Argentina could be the third team to qualify

The Argentine National Team will try to join the list of qualifiers next Tuesday against none other than Brazil. To achieve this, it will be enough to obtain a draw.

The match will be played at Estadio Monumental starting at 9 PM, and the team led by Lionel Scaloni wants to confirm its presence in the 2026 World Cup. Currently, La Albiceleste comfortably leads the South American Qualifiers table with 28 points, with a 6-point advantage over Ecuador, its immediate follower.

While the goal is to secure qualification at the top, the essential thing is to finish among the top six, as these teams will directly access the World Cup, while the seventh will have to play the play-offs.  With five matches remaining in the South American Qualifiers, Bolivia currently occupies the seventh position with 13 points, 15 less than Argentina, and there are still 15 points in play.
