YPF signed an agreement with XtraLit to boost lithium development in Argentina

The Israeli company's technology represents an opportunity to optimize lithium development in the country

In a key step toward technological innovation, Y-TEC, YPF's research and development company, announced the signing of an agreement with the Israeli company XtraLit (XL) to evaluate the application in Argentina of an innovative direct lithium extraction technology (DLE). This strategic collaboration aims to enhance the efficient development of the resource, one of the pillars for the global energy future.

The agreement focuses on studying the feasibility of applying XtraLit's patented technology, based on ion exchange, to extract lithium from Argentine brines. Unlike traditional methods, direct lithium extraction allows for a more efficient process, with less pollution and an optimized use of water and energy.

Additionally, this technology demonstrates high efficiency even in brines with low mineral concentrations, a factor that could significantly expand the exploitation areas in the country.

Meanwhile, Y-TEC highlighted that this initiative is part of YPF's strategic plan to position itself as a key player in the development of new energies. The company, which already has solid experience in lithium-related projects, considers it essential to explore emerging technologies that ensure competitiveness and efficiency in the energy sector.

The origin of the agreement dates back to the visit that YPF's current CEO, Horacio Marín, made to Israel in January of this year. During his stay, he held meetings organized by the Argentine Embassy in that country, with the aim of promoting investments and innovative projects in strategic sectors.

Both YPF and XtraLit expressed their gratitude to the Argentine ambassador in Israel, Axel Wahnish, and his team for the key role they played in facilitating this technological cooperation link.

XtraLit, founded in 2021 and based in Rehovot, Israel, demonstrated its capability in lithium extraction under challenging conditions, such as those of the Dead Sea. Its advanced technology represents an opportunity to diversify and optimize lithium development in Argentine territory.

This agreement marks a new milestone in positioning Argentina as a key player in the global lithium chain and consolidates YPF as a benchmark in integrating technological innovation with national strategic vision.
