Andronicus on campaign: The senator met with socialist politicians in Argentina
The parliamentarian failed to fulfill his commitment to address the economic crisis, left the legislature, and traveled to Argentina
The President of the Senate of Bolivia, Andrónico Rodríguez, traveled to Argentina on an official visit. In Buenos Aires, he held meetings with Governor Axel Kicillof and with socialist figures from the political and intellectual spheres. On his social media, he highlighted that the meetings focused on regional integration and strengthening cooperation between both nations.
Rodríguez also participated in the presentation of a book on international law and human rights violations. During the event, he spoke with former judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, Eugenio Zaffaroni, and political scientist Atilio Borón. Both are known for their closeness to the coca grower Evo Morales and have defended his position in the legal field on several occasions.

Meanwhile, the senator was promoting the strengthening of regional ties, a legislative crisis was unfolding in Bolivia. His absence from a key bicameral session prevented the discussion of a 100 million dollar loan. This loan, granted by Japan, is essential to replenish resources used during the Covid-19 pandemic and ensure the financing of the general elections.
The absence of 18 senators, including Rodríguez, left the Thursday session without a quorum. Several political sectors criticized the fact, pointing out that a matter of national urgency was sidelined. The lack of legislative action generates uncertainty about the country's economic and political stability, which has caused concern in various sectors.
Is this the start of his campaign?

Rodríguez justified his trip by stating that it was part of an official agenda and indicated that these meetings are necessary to consolidate spaces for dialogue and cooperation in the region. However, opponents and analysts believe that his priority should be addressing the economic crisis and fulfilling his responsibilities. This has not happened despite the authority stating that his top priority was addressing the widespread crisis the country is going through.
The senator's trip occurs in a context of tensions within the Movement for Socialism (MAS). Some sectors consider him an alternative option to Evo Morales for the 2025 elections. However, Morales would prefer to support Leonardo Loza if he can't run, which demonstrates a division in the ruling party.
The senator has been declared "Favorite Son of San Matías" and has received support in various regions of the country. However, his closeness to certain sectors of MAS raises suspicions within his own party.
The internal division highlights the lack of unity within the ruling party ahead of the upcoming elections. Their internal struggles continue to affect the population. The senator has already been tempted to be the MAS candidate, but from Chapare, they have prohibited this situation.
Governor Kicillof emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between Bolivia and Argentina. According to him, regional cooperation is key to the development of the peoples.
Rodríguez agreed with this vision and reaffirmed his commitment to South American integration. However, this has not managed to dispel the criticisms against him for his absence in Bolivia.
Despite the senator's defense, his absence continues to generate questions. The Legislative Assembly faces paralysis at crucial moments for the country's financial stability. The lack of decision on the loan could affect the planning of the elections and create economic difficulties in the near future.
The former MAS spokesperson, Alex Contreras, assured that Morales doesn't trust Rodríguez as his successor. He stated that the coca grower leader would prefer to promote Loza instead of the current president of the Senate. This reflects the power struggle within the ruling party and the tensions that exist within the party.
Rodríguez insists that he is not seeking any candidacy and that his priority is institutional strengthening. However, his actions generate speculation about his political intentions. The fact is that the senator left the country at a delicate moment, while an economic and political crisis is being endured.
