Elections: Chi Hyun Chung proposed an approach with the MNR
The pre-candidate seeks to gain support; to that end, he is also in talks with organizations aligned with the regime.
Presidential pre-candidate Chi Hyun Chung has confirmed that he is in talks with the Revolutionary Nationalist Movement (MNR). This is with a view to consolidating an alliance ahead of the general elections on August 17. Although the evangelical leader doesn't yet have his own party, his intention is to gain the support of political sectors that share his conservative vision.
"We are in talks, the MNR is divided into two groups and there is a majority vote in our favor, but they have to hold their Assembly", he explained. In that context, he assured that he trusts the negotiations will advance under the "grace of God" and that he expects a favorable outcome.
The MNR, one of Bolivia's historic parties, is going through an internal crisis that has fragmented its leadership. While one sector is considering the possibility of supporting Chi, another has not yet made a definitive decision. The uncertainty about the future of the party could be decisive in the success or failure of this alliance.

Beyond his approach to the MNR, Chi has also indicated that he is in talks with Unidad Cívica Solidaridad (UCS) of Jhonny Fernández and other political groups. However, he clarified that no formal coalition has been finalized and that his team is still exploring different possibilities to face the electoral contest.
What is completely ruled out is an alliance with the Frente Para la Victoria (FPV). This is because that party has openly expressed its support for Evo Morales. Chi today presents himself as a constant critic of the former dictator and the political model he represents. This contrasts with his approach to UCS, a party serving the regime.
Meanwhile, the pre-candidate has intensified his tour of the country to consolidate his presence in the electoral race. In the coming days, he will visit the city of El Alto, where he will seek to strengthen his support among popular sectors. This with his political proposal based on conservative values and a supposed opposition to socialism.
Is it a true alternative to masismo?

Chi's strategy is not limited solely to the adhesion of political parties. Recently, he signed an alliance with former prosecutor Jaime Soliz from Santa Cruz and has expressed his intention to add Captain Edman Lara to his team. Both had previously collaborated on a project, but then Lara distanced himself.
In the electoral field, Chi has been involved in recent controversies with other presidential candidates. During his visit to Cochabamba, he asked Manfred Reyes Villa to withdraw his candidacy and focus on completing his term as mayor. "If he wanted to use the mayor's office as a stepping stone, he should have said so from the beginning," he questioned.
Some polls released by media outlets aligned with the regime show that Chi is well-positioned in the electoral race. These present him with levels of support similar to those of Reyes Villa and other false opponents. Despite the volatility of these surveys, the pre-candidate trusts that his radical discourse and religious focus will allow him to garner significant support at the polls.
Another controversial point of his campaign has been his intention to strengthen ties with South Korea, the country where he was born before migrating to Bolivia. In a recent interview, he assured that his eventual presidency will be "for the dignity and praise of the Korean people", a statement that has caused mixed reactions in the national political arena.
Although Chi has built his candidacy with a populist and anti-establishment message, his ability to form a solid political structure is still in doubt. The lack of his own party and the uncertainty about possible alliances cast doubt on his viability as a strong contender in the August elections.
The approach to the MNR could give him the structure he needs, but it also raises questions about the coherence of his discourse with the historical values of that organization. As the elections approach, it remains to be seen whether this alliance will materialize and what impact it will have on the configuration of the electoral map.
