The Assembly moved forward with the elimination of public funds for political parties.

The reform submitted by Daniel Noboa was approved without changes by the special committee

The special commission of the National Assembly approved the second debate report to eliminate state funding for parties and political movements. The proposal, submitted by President Daniel Noboa, was accepted with almost no modifications.

According to official data, since 2008 the State has provided more than USD 240 million in public funds to political organizations. This figure includes the Permanent Party Fund and resources allocated to electoral promotion, mechanisms that have been widely questioned for their lack of transparency.

Esteban Torres, president of the commission and ADN assembly member, emphasized that the project remained faithful to the spirit of the presidential proposal. "State funding for campaigns and party structures is eliminated at its root," he stated during the session.

The reform means that no political party would receive more state resources, not even for campaigns for "yes" or "no" in popular consultations. This measure would force organizations to rely on their own means, promoting greater financial responsibility and decentralization of political power.

With this decision, a precedent is set in the pursuit of efficiency in public spending and in the transparency of the electoral system. The approved document will be sent to Niels Olsen, president of the Assembly, for its final vote in the Plenary.

The dismantling of these funding structures marks a clear difference from the clientelist model promoted by previous socialist regimes. For years, millions of dollars were diluted in electoral campaigns without any real impact on the country's democratic quality.

Noboa's proposal puts an end to these undeserved benefits. Instead of funding political bureaucracies, the funds can be directed to security, health, and education, critical sectors for national development.

The reform adds to a series of measures aimed at consolidating a more efficient State less captured by partisan interests. Noboa thus consolidates his profile as a statesman with a reformist vision.
