Noboa prioritizes meeting with the U.S. and postpones trip to Vietnam
The Ecuadorian president will meet with Marco Rubio to strengthen cooperation on security and migration
PresidentDaniel Noboa has decided to postpone his official visit to Vietnam, the last stop of his international tour, in order to prioritize his meeting with Marco Rubio, Secretary of State of the United States. The decision was made by mutual agreement with Vietnamese authorities, and the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the trip will take place at a later date.
The meeting with Rubio will take place on September 4 in Quito and its main objective is to strengthen bilateral cooperation on security issues, the fight against drug trafficking, and irregular immigration. Washington has shown interest in supporting Ecuador's efforts to curb criminal organizations with transnational ties, including Tren de Aragua and the Cartel de los Soles.

US sources indicated that Ecuador's relationship with China will also be addressed, although they emphasized that there is no pressure for the country to formally leave the Belt and Road Initiative. According to analysts, Noboa seeks to chart a new strategic course that strengthens cooperation with the United States without neglecting the diversification of international relations.
With this meeting, the Ecuadorian government reaffirms its key alliance with the United States in the fight against organized crime and in managing migration flows, issues that shape the regional and global agenda.
Noboa's decision to postpone his visit to Vietnam to prioritize the meeting with Marco Rubio demonstrates the importance of the relationship with the United States as a strategic partner in security, migration, and regional stability.
