Correísmo failed in the key debates of the National Assembly

RC and ADN faced off in a political clash in the legislature that will intensify in the second electoral round

The correísmo, represented by the Revolución Ciudadana (RC) bloc, failed in its attempt to influence key debates within the National Assembly. In its strategy, the RC tried to oversee the concession of the Sacha oil field and the alleged irregularities in the purchase of vests and helmets for the Armed Forces. However, Daniel Noboa's government managed to neutralize these actions before they had an impact.

Although the RC had convened the plenary to discuss these issues, it faced unexpected obstacles that deactivated its offensive.

The debate over the Sacha field lost relevance when it was revealed that the concession was never finalized. The companies involved did not pay the $1.5 billion premium on time, which led to a resolution rejecting the concession and sending the case to the State Comptroller's Office. Thus, the RC's effort to use the issue as a political attack against the government quickly deflated.

During the plenary session, legislator Valentina Centeno (ADN) harshly criticized the inefficiency of the Assembly, calling the discussion on Sacha a waste of time that did not contribute to the country's real legislative challenges.

The RC also tried to press on the purchase of military vests and helmets, but this issue was overshadowed by an ongoing investigation by the Attorney General's Office. Additionally, the State Comptroller's Office refrained from requesting the declassification of the information, leaving the correísta bloc's proposal unfounded.

Thus, the political actions of the RC were limited by ongoing legal processes, forcing the president of the Assembly, Viviana Veloz, to suspend the session and postpone any resolution on the matter.

Correísmo suffered a setback in its attempt to use the National Assembly as a platform to undermine the government and its rivals in the second electoral round. The efforts to oversee the Sacha field and the purchase of military vests and helmets did not have the expected impact, and the Revolución Ciudadana was forced to rethink its strategy.

This type of political confrontation will continue in the legislature as the presidential election approaches, with the Noboa government adapting to correísmo's tactics.
