Trump confirmed the death of the attacker at the White House and praised the Secret Service for preventing another attack.

Donald Trump issued a statement early Sunday morning after a man opened fire on Secret Service agents near the White House. This new incident marks the fifth time there have been attempts on the president's life in the last two years.

There were between 20 and 30 shots heard near the White House on Saturday night, shortly after President Trump announced that a preliminary agreement with Iran to end the war had been reached and the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened.

The attacker, identified as Nasire Best, 21 years old, fired in the direction of the White House three times. The Secret Service returned fire and took down the assailant, who had previously attempted to access the presidential residence and was known to Trump's security team for this incident.

Miraculously, only one bystander was injured in the shooting, and no injuries were reported among the Secret Service members, while Best died after being transported to a hospital.

In his statement, Trump praised the Secret Service and law enforcement for their work and for preventing the situation from escalating.
