The president Donald Trump announced Wednesday night what he described as "the most crushing economic operation ever undertaken against any country", warning nations, financial institutions, and companies that do business with the Iranian terrorist regime.
"I ANNOUNCE THE MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER UNDERTAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY," Trump declared in a post on his social media. "I also announce that any country that allows its financial institutions, companies, etc., to provide any lifeline to Iran will face tremendous economic consequences," the president assured.
With this announcement, Trump moves away from seeking a quick military resolution to the war and focuses on a sustained economic strangulation strategy against the Islamic Republic, in a campaign that could include additional sanctions on the regime's oil networks and financial channels, as well as pressure on foreign companies and banks that help Tehran evade the financial blockade.

The one leading this pressure campaign is the Treasury Secretary of the Trump administration, Scott Bessent, who last week anticipated that Washington would impose measures against Iran "never seen before", focusing on the Iranian oil industry that sustains the country.
