The Forum of Families of Kidnapped Persons demanded an urgent meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to force a plan that ensures the remains of the 13 hostages still held in Gaza are returned for a dignified burial.
This comes after a coffin delivered by Hamas to Israel contained partial remains of Ofir Tzarfati, a hostage whose body had been recovered by the Israeli army at the beginning of December 2023.
The families denounce what they describe as "cynical manipulation" by Hamas and demand that mediators and international organizations act more decisively.
For the families and a large part of Israeli public opinion, this act is not a technical error but a deliberate violation of the ceasefire agreement and of the commitment to honorably transfer the remains.

The political response was swift. Cabinet ministers asked Netanyahu to urgently convene the Security Cabinet to study countermeasures—which may range from operational sanctions, such as preventing Hamas from accessing the agreed security zone, to suspending agreed stages of the ceasefire agreement—and to decide how to guarantee the national priority: bringing home the dead and the living.
Voices from the Government called for forceful measures. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich demanded that Gaza not be allowed to be rebuilt as long as Hamas's structure exists, and called for a "firm and determined" package of responses that makes it clear Israel will not tolerate mockery toward the families.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir was even more direct: his assessment is that Hamas's persistence demonstrates that the organization still exists as a threat and must be completely defeated. These positions highlight the internal political pressure on the Executive to act forcefully.
On the streets, the outrage is palpable. From massive protests in Tel Aviv to gatherings in front of military barracks, the families and their supporters demand a single priority: bringing their loved ones back and burying the dead with dignity.
The social climate is one of pain and frustration, and this fuels the public demand for a response that leaves no room for a sense of impunity for Hamas.
