The remains of Idan Shtivi, another one of the hostages killed in Gaza, have been identified.

They were recovered along with those of Ilan Weiss, whose death had been announced a day earlier

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed Saturday night that the remains of hostage Idan Shtivi were identified following a special joint operation by the Israeli Army (IDF) and Shin Bet in the Gaza Strip. His remains were recovered alongside those of Ilan Weiss, whose death had been announced a day earlier.

Shtivi, 28 years old, was an Environmental Sciences student at the Reichman University School of Sustainability. Passionate about nature and environmental protection, he was considered a talented and committed young man.

During the October 7, 2023 attack, he attended the Nova music festival to photograph some friends who were organizing workshops at the event.

When the massacre perpetrated by Hamas began, Shtivi acted bravely: he helped evacuate several participants and managed to bring two people to safety before being killed by the terrorists. His body was abducted and taken to Gaza, where it remained until its recovery in the recent military operation.

"Idan was a talented student of sustainability and government, and a brave man," Netanyahu stated when announcing the news.

"During the attack, he dedicated himself to saving lives, and in the course of those actions he was killed and his body abducted. Together with my wife and on behalf of all citizens of Israel, we send our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and share their deep pain."

The identification process was carried out at the National Center of Forensic Medicine, with the participation of the Israel Police, the Military Rabbinate, and the Hostages and Missing Headquarters. The family was officially informed after confirmation.

Shtivi is survived by his parents, Eli and Dalit, three siblings, and his partner, Stav. His name is added to the tragic list of victims of October 7, a day on which 1,200 Israelis were killed and more than 250 abducted by Hamas.

Netanyahu reiterated that the fight for the return of the hostages remains a priority: "The campaign to bring back our abducted continues without pause. We won't rest or be silent until we bring everyone back, both the living and the fallen."
