'1883': The prequel to the successful series 'Yellowstone' is now available on Netflix
The prequel to 'Yellowstone,' '1883,' is now available on Netflix, revealing the origins of the Dutton family
1883 takes us to the past, long before the decline we saw in the five seasons of Yellowstone. The series narrates the beginnings of the family legacy. When the Duttons embark on a journey westward, they face the initial challenges in what would later become their ranch in Montana.
This story unfolds in a crucial period, as the family struggles to survive after the Civil War, in a context of drama and dangers. From Tennessee, the family faces the unknown western land, in a journey full of obstacles that will change their lives forever.

A journey full of drama and challenges
Like the parent series, 1883 revisits the classic story of the conquest of the West. The series doesn't hold back in showing intense scenes, full of emotion and danger.
With a script by Taylor Sheridan, the same creator of Yellowstone, the series features Sam Elliott as the former army captain, leading the group. The plot follows James Dillard, ancestor of the Duttons, who along with his family faces the consequences of the war.
Realism in every detail
The realism of 1883 required a titanic effort. The series was filmed in different locations, from Texas to Montana, and faithfully recreated the Old West environment.

- Filming began in August 2021 in Texas and concluded in January 2022 in Montana.
- A permanent western town was built at Yellowstone Film Ranch, with 26 structures.
- The scenes at the Dutton ranch were filmed at the authentic Chief Joseph Ranch, in Darby, Montana, which also appears in the original series.
